The Challenge
Redesign the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer (DCCT) in WordPress while allowing visitors to lookup property tax information, pay their property taxes online and search for their voter registration information. DCCT also wanted the ability to turn the payment system off periodically and to manage due dates and service fees.
The Solution
Working in tandem with Highmark Designs, Internovations took the lead in developing the integration with DCCT’s existing database. Internovations developed routines in SQL Server to allow visitors to query for their property based on name or county parcel number. The system can then display property tax payments due for the current year, past due amounts and show several years of payment history. If taxes are due, visitors can also make their payments online.
Internovations built a custom WordPress plug-in that allows DCCT to turn the payment system off when necessary. The plug-in also allows DCCT staff to define the due dates for payments and to specify service charges based on the method of payment. The plug-in also integrates with DCCT’s payment processor thereby allowing visitors to securely make payments online.
In addition to property tax management, Internovations also developed routines that allow visitors to query for their voter registration information. DCCT’s custom WordPress plug-in allows them to upload sample voter ballots and present the appropriate ballot to visitors based on a visitor’s voting precinct.
Conclusion
This project is a perfect example of our ability to integrate disparate systems. With this project we successfully married WordPress, Microsoft SQL Server, DCCT’s main-frame data and a third-party payment processor.
More than just website designers, Internovations offers “complete” web solutions.
